For average speed calculation in Mapotempo, the Light Vehicle profile uses a range of information to deduce the speed on each segment of the route. If the speed limit is available in Open Street Map, it will be used. Otherwise, a weighting is applied according to the type of road. Then the speed is decreased in urban/business areas, and decreased further in city centers. Finally, Open Street Routing Map itself uses a number of parameters: penalties are added for each bend, set of traffic lights, road width and surface type.
